Growing More and More Every Day

From life skills and work experiences to off-campus excursions and parties, the Shannon Adult  Program at Miami Learning Experience provides community-based enrichment to the lives of our students and their families every day.

Open to our graduating K-12 students as well as the community, our adult program ensures students 22 years and older who have Down syndrome, autism, and other exceptionalities can maintain an uninterrupted path of progress and learn the skills of adulthood.

Our expert educators and therapists have created a comprehensive program specifically designed for the individual student. That way, we meet the needs — and abilities — of our adults with special needs, building on their skills in order to cultivate self-esteem, self-advocacy, and independence.

Embraced. Encouraged. Empowered.

We like to say, “We want our students to see the world, and we want the world to see our students.” In the Shannon Adult Program is that motto in action. Whether working on campus or off campus through arrangements with community partners, students in the adult program get to enjoy an experience in a career driven world that is individually tailored to them.

Part of growing up is trying out our independence. That’s true for everyone, including adults with developmental delays. These employment opportunities help our students build confidence, workplace skills, social growth, and a sense of purpose, while interacting with the community at large — a community that belongs to us all.

Creating Work Opportunities for Our Students

Miami Learning Experience has created a spectacular work environment for our Shannon Adult Program students called MLE Designs, our own off-campus manufacturing facility. Participants work in sales and marketing in the greater Miami community, selling merchandise at area fairs.

Community Partnerships

MLE helps ensure the community as a whole is making space for exceptional adults. We have cultivated partnerships with local businesses, universities, and houses of worship so that our Shannon Adult Program students are able to work at facilities within the community to build confidence, job skills, and their resume!
