Our Mission
Miami Learning Experience promotes a safe and peaceful environment that encourages individualized academic, social, and emotional growth for all children and adults with intellectual developmental disabilities. We provide our students with the necessary tools to go beyond the classroom and become active members of the community.
Our Story
When we founded Miami Learning Experience (MLE) in 1977, we were just a group of concerned parents who saw potential in our children with special needs, but didn’t see enough local resources to help them thrive. Through vision, determination, and love, we created the K-12 school our children deserved — the kind of school all children deserve.
Over the last 50 years, we’ve grown the MLE campus, integrated contemporary technology and expertise, and welcomed students from across Miami-Dade and Broward. Wherever our families drive in from, we ensure MLE continues to feel like a neighborhood school, a supportive nest for our great students and their families.
Believing Is Achieving
Like a flower that needs space to grow, students with special needs flourish at Miami Learning Experience because we don’t limit expectations of what they can achieve.
Our K-12 program and Shannon Adult Program blend evidence-based instruction, adaptive equipment, and specialized materials to meet diverse learning needs while fostering confidence, communication, and community participation. On top of that, our students are immersed in supplemental enrichment programs that take our students beyond the classroom and campus to build their confidence and life experiences.
A Unique Educational Landscape
Miami Learning Experience sits on a lush three-acre campus near Tropical Park that enjoys easy access from the Palmetto Expressway, yet feels nestled in tranquility. On a typical morning, the campus comes alive with arriving students carrying colorful backpacks and lunch boxes, greeting their teachers and eager to begin a new day of learning, growth, and extracurricular activities. Amid mature trees and freshly blooming flowers, MLE has cultivated a culture of attentiveness, understanding, and the value of believing in yourself.
