WELCOME
Miami Learning Experience Is the Ideal School for Children with Special Needs

Miami Learning Experience (MLE) exists for a very important purpose: to improve the lives of students with intellectual disabilities, including Down syndrome, autism, and other exceptionalities.

MLE offers programs for grades K-12. After graduation, students can remain at MLE through our adult program, which has no age limit.

The History of Miami Learning Experience

We founded Miami Learning Experience in 1977, as a group of committed parents who believed in the potential of our children with special needs. We saw developmental capabilities far beyond what was imagined before, so we rallied resources, educators, and experts and created the school the community needed.

EXPERTISE
Expertise

Exceeds Expectations

We want every family to know their child is in a school that feels right. That’s why our programs are designed exclusively for our students and their level, with learning plans that cultivate their sense of progress, success, and well-being.

Encompassing elementary, middle, and high school, Miami Learning Experience’s K-12 program includes a comprehensive school curriculum brought to life through a variety of teaching methods that integrate the latest technology in classroom instruction. After high school, most of our graduates remain in the MLE family for our Shannon Adult Day Program.

The comprehensive curriculum at MLE includes academics plus other fields of study that provide alternate approaches to teaching. Language arts, math, social studies, and science are interwoven with subjects that are personally enriching, including physical education, art, music, drama, cooking, and daily living skills.

Your Child Is
the Center of a Community

Miami Learning Experience is a non-profit school owned by the community. Comprised of five modern buildings on a beautiful three-acre neighborhood campus near Tropical Park, MLE offers a warm and compassionate experience that’s only possible at a school devoted entirely to special needs students.

As the parent of a child with Down syndrome, autism or other exceptionalities, you’ve been facing down complicated decisions their whole life. Now, you have our community of faculty, staff, and therapists here to provide support and insights to help you along the way. You believe your child deserves an environment where they can flourish — and so do we.

Here, children make lifelong friendships. Parents feel supported. And everyone feels like family.

FINANCIAL AID
We know every family’s journey looks different. We want MLE to be affordable for your family.

We believe affordability should not be a barrier to attending Miami Learning Experience. MLE accepts Step Up for Students FES-UA Scholarships (K-12) and CDC+ (adult day program).

WE ACCEPT:

At MLE, the median out of pocket expense for K-12 students is $6,600, and 40% of our students receive financial aid from MLE that is in addition to Step Up for Students. This would not be possible without the support we get internally from MLE families that are fortunate to be able to help others, as well as from loyal community patrons.

MLE also provides financial aid to adults in need, and more importantly, MLE hires consultants to work with families that are eligible to receive government support, so they receive the benefits they are entitled and will have the means to pay tuition and living expenses. This benefits our students, not just while they are enrolled at MLE, but for the duration of their eligibility for government assistance.
